Most vaccinations don't last a lifetime. That's why you should get a tetanus shot every ten years. Also why even people that might come in contact with Rabies should get a shot when they have a possible close contact. So it wouldn't be expected that your polio vaccine is any different.

Once the initial series of vaccinations is complete, adults are NOT routinely given booster vaccinations unless they are likely to be exposed to the disease (for example, if they plan to travel to an area where polio is currently occurring).
